The relationship between Capulet and Juliet Essay One of the main themes in the play Romeo and Juliet is that of the generation gap between the young and the old. The younger generation have new and innovative ways of doing things, whilst the older generation tend to stick with the traditions they have grown up with. The misunderstanding between the younger and older characters in the play causes many of the dilemmas that the characters face.At the beginning of the play Lord Capulet (also referred to as Capulet) seems an honourable and welcoming character, who is willing to keep the peace between the house of Montague and of his own. When confronted at the start of the play by his son Tybalt about Romeos gate-crashing of the Capulets house party he shows a warm and welcoming attitude towards him and says Verona brags of him to be a virtuous and well governed youth, this is a peculiar thing for a Capulet to say about a Montague as there is such a high level of hatred between the two families. Capulet cares tremendously about his daug hter Juliet and only wants what is best for her. As all of Capulets children have died and Juliet is the only child remaining he is mildly overprotective of her. For example when he is speaking to Paris about marrying Juliet he says And too soon marriedall my hopes but she.Throughout the play Juliet faces a variety of emotional challenges; this ensures a young and naà ¯Ã ¿Ã ½ve Juliet has to mature above her age in a short period of time. These obstacles include her marriage to Romeo and her relationship with her father Capulet. In Act 1 Scene 2 Capulet says to his daughter My child is yet a stranger in the world. This supports the idea that she is naà ¯Ã ¿Ã ½ve and immature in the first half of the play. At the start of the play her language is normal and the fact she does not have much antithesis. As the play progresses her language intensifies and we see a humble, outgoing and responsible character that seems very different person to the Juliet earlier on in the play.Anothe r key feature of the play is the Ancient grudge. This ultimately leads to the death of the star crossed lovers. The younger generation do not understand the danger the hatred between the two houses can put them in. Romeo and Juliet could die if someone as much saw them together in the play. Romeo and Juliet overcome this dilemma as they are willing to risk their lives for the love they have for each other. Shakespeares play contains a great deal of dramatic irony, this gives the play a feeling of suspense as the two characters could get caught at any time. Just after the first fight scene in the play Lady Capulet says to Capulet A crutch, a crutch. Lady Capulet is implying that Capulet is too old to fight in a younger generations battle. This is yet another example of age vs youth.Many people would say that another major role in the outcome of the play is the urgency for Romeo and Juliet. In the Jacobean times that average life expectancy would be around the age of 35 and therefore you can see why Capulet is eager to marry off Juliet since she is at an age where she can bear children. We know this as Lady Capulet says Shes not fourteen. Although Lady Capulet is very strict and unforgiving throughout the play I believe that she cares immensely for her daughter and only wants a successful and happy marriage for her. When she mistakes Juliets tears as grief for Tybalts death at hands of Romeo she promises vengeance for his death by poisoning Romeo in Mantua We will have vengeance for it, fear thou not: Then weep no more. Ill send one to Mantua.Act 3 Scene 5 is where Capulets relationship with Juliet is broadly illustrated. At the start of the scene Lady Capulet enters her daughters room and puts forward the proposition of a marriage between her and Paris. Marry my child early next Thursday morn the gallant.county Parisshall happily make thee there a joyful bride. Juliet dismisses this offer without a thought of how much this marriage means to the Capulet househol d. Capulet then enters the room and is greeted by Juliets refusal to marry Paris.Lord Capulet then unleashes a flurry of hurtful outbursts which include If you do not go to Church on Thursdayhang, beg, starve, die in the streets for by my soul I will never acknowledge thee. This is a very hurtful and malicious to make his only remaining child and daughter Juliet is only trying to tell her father that she is not in love with Paris and wont marry him. We can make the assumption that Capulet thinks that Juliet is being ungrateful and rebellious by dismissing her fathers offer for her to marry Paris.Juliet also shows that she is an understanding and honourable character at various stages throughout the play both to her family and to people such as Romeo and the Nurse. One of these examples is in Act 4 Scene 1 where Juliet remains loyal and honourable to Romeo despite her conversation with Friar Lawrence about the arranged marriage to Paris and that of her committing suicide when she say s And I will.wife to my sweet love where she is talking about faking her own death just so she can be Romeos unstained wife.Juliets character goes through several life changing scenarios in one period of time that you would expect to encounter in a lifetime. This leads me to my conclusion where I can say that Juliet as a character shows great courage, maturity and self-awareness throughout the play. This statement could not be presented in a better example than that of Juliet faking her own death just so she can spend the rest of her life with her true love Romeo. Out of the characters among the play Romeo and Juliet, Juliet stands out as the true survivor although she died as she has overcome so many impediments and yet still matured and matured until she reached the point where she put her love before her well being and sacrificed her life, friends and family to be with her one true love Romeo.

The Best ACT Vocabulary Lists on the Web SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips This could take a while. Do you need to study vocabulary for the ACT but arenââ¬â¢t sure where to start? We have links to free lists of ACT vocab from around the web. We also have found other vocab study resources ââ¬â from videos to apps to browser plug-ins ââ¬â to help you study ACT-specific vocabulary. A Few Words of Advice: Donââ¬â¢t Overdo Vocab Vocabulary on the ACT is far from the most important thing you can be doing to prep. You wonââ¬â¢t be tested on obscure words or need to memorize definitions to be successful. Spending hours memorizing difficult, arcane vocab words will not help you on the ACT. This is because the ACT tests moderate-difficulty words in the context of sentences, and focuses on words with multiple meanings. For more on this, read our article on ACT vocabulary ââ¬â itââ¬â¢s a must read before you begin to study! In short, make sure you donââ¬â¢t just memorize vocabulary and assume it will get you ready for ACT English and ACT Reading. You need to focus on being able to define vocabulary in context and recognize multiple-meaning words. Many prep programs over-emphasize memorizing vocabulary because itââ¬â¢s easy to teach. Still, learning vocabulary does matter for the ACT (we recommend using the waterfall method to study), which is why weââ¬â¢re including word lists and resources here. Keep in mind that you should view vocabulary as just one component of ACT Reading and English. Donââ¬â¢t neglect studying grammar rules or practicing for the reading section. It's important to keep your ACT studying regimen balanced. Don't spend so much time on one skill you neglect another. ACT Vocabulary Word Lists As we discussed above, the ACT is all about testing vocabulary in context, rather than strange, obscure words. Beware of any super-long word lists that claim to be for the ACT ââ¬â they are likely just old SAT word lists with a different title. Focus on learning medium-difficulty words really well so you know them in context, and less on learning as many words as possible. I recommend starting with our PrepScholar list. We focus on words with multiple meanings that are likely to appear on the ACT. Our 150 ACT wordsalso includes some vocabulary to help you on the science section. If you are still struggling with vocabulary after learning our 150 words, you can also learn these 100 words from Scholastic. This is technically an ACT/SAT list, but focuses on medium-difficulty words that appeared in a Scholastic publication, so it will be helpful for the ACT. Finally, you can learn 50 more science-specific vocabulary words to help with the science section. Once you have these words under your belt, you will have the base you need to do well on ACT Reading and English. Memorizing more words will have diminishing returns, since again, obscure words arenââ¬â¢t tested on the ACT. And more importantly, you need to practice being able to define words in context. Doing ACT Practice sections will be just as helpful for learning that skill. Memorizing hundreds of vocab words will not. Flashcards, Games, and Other Resources Here are some additional free web resources that can be really helpful for learning ACT vocabulary, and specifically for learning words in context of larger articles or passages. The first two would be great resources for any student. The last two are helpful for students who are auditory learners or learn best by example. Quizlet This is a flashcard website which you can use to learn vocabulary words. If you make an account, you can use their website but also mobile apps for iPhone and Android ââ¬â meaning you can study whenever you find yourself with a free moment. You can search through thousands of pre-existing flashcard sets on Quizlet. You can either make your own sets using the lists above or search for ââ¬Å"ACT vocabularyâ⬠to access pre-made flashcards other users have made. Just be careful you donââ¬â¢t pull up a supposed ââ¬Å"ACT Vocabâ⬠card set that is really just old SAT vocabulary. (Any lists longer than 250 words are too long.) You can also search for ââ¬Å"ACT Scienceâ⬠to review more science vocabulary. I personally used this app all the time in college for my language classes and found its format very helpful. I could make flashcards on Quizlet much faster than writing them out by hand. Plus, I would pull up the app whenever I found myself with spare time (waiting in line somewhere, for example) and study a few words. ProfessorWord This is an app for your browser that pulls ACT vocabulary words from articles and pages and defines them for you. This is really cool because if you read articles online, particularly in publications like The Economist, Time, or The New Yorker, you are encountering tons of ACT vocabulary words. This app just goes through and points them out so you donââ¬â¢t miss them! This is an excellent way to learn words in context, which is super useful to prepare for ACT Reading and English. Even if you read just one article a day, by going though the highlighted words and testing your knowledge of them, you can improve your ability to define words in context. This is a great way to practice for ACT vocabulary, and also a fun way, if you like reading articles and blogs. "No, Mom, I'm not just reading Game of Thrones recaps for fun, this is for the ACT!" Rather than just giving you a dictionary definition, they also use vocabulary words in sentences, with animations to match, to help you learn. Head to the ââ¬Å"Study Roomâ⬠tab to find the vocabulary videos. You can go through the ââ¬Å"SAT Common 300â⬠list, as it has a lot of words that overlap with ACT vocabulary. You can also go to the ââ¬Å"Masterâ⬠list to look up words you are having trouble with. Vocab Sushi If you like online quizzes, Vocab Sushi is a fun website that lets you test your vocab knowledge with quizzes and teaches vocab words by using them in sentences. This site is especially useful for the ACT since it emphasizes meaning in context. Vocab Sushi draws example sentences from real-life newspapers and magazines, helping you see how words are actually used in the real world. As young adults and teens, we all face social and emotional issues. After World War I, the Germans were killing the Jews because they were blaming them for losing the war. For example, Holocaust began because the Jews were being blamed. This was the main issue that the Jews faced. Hitler then got everyone to believe that the Jews were the problem for everything. This is just one example of how issues affected people. Issues are a problem that people face daily. Issues can be divided in to social, emotional, physical. An example of a social issue could be bullying. Bullying is a social issues because it is the way a person decided to communicate to another. Depression is an example of an emotional because it has to do with how a person feels inside. An example of a physical issue would be abuse. Social and emotional issues can be seen in families, friends, and depression. When teens are faced with these issues, they cope in different ways. When young adults and teens cope with social and emotional issues in families, it is shown in many ways. First of all, families usually have social issues. An example can be when a family has bad communication and they are fighting. Fighting with family members would be a social issue as well because it is the way they communicate together. A few ways that young adults cope with social issues includes fighting with others, staying quiet, and violence. Next, families can have emotional issues too. Some emotional issues can be caused because of social issues. For example, if a family is ignoring one child, that child could feel unimportant. The was that young adult cope with emotional issues are similar to the ways they cope with social issues. Thirdly, in the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, ... ...motional issues. For example, if someone was depressed, the may decide to cope by keeping the problem to themselves because they are scared to tell others. During the Holocaust, the Jewish had to deal with their issues. Their issue was that the German were killing Jews because they were blaming them for losing World War I. The way the Jews coped with their issue was going into hiding. They believed going into hiding would be the best way to cope because nobody would be able to find them.

Evidence rules, precedent, and judicial discretion play a role in determining what type of tort law will be applied.NEGLIGENCE ââ¬â In this case, intent or mental state do not matter. What matters is whether some inadvertent act or failure to act created an unreasonable risk to another member of society. (Examples: speeding resulting in traffic accident; not responding to 911 call) Most states have three levels of negligence: (1) slight or mere (absence of foresight); (2) gross (reckless disregard) this is our case and (3) criminal. To be prosecuted under tort law for negligence usually requires at least level 2 since to be prosecuted for mere negligence requires considering foresee ability which would support charging the person with an intentional tort or not.Examples of gross negligence or accumulations of mere negligence constitute deliberate indifference.à This standard is usually satisfied by looking at whether or not the agency administration engaged in supervisory negligence. Virtually every decision a police administrator makes subjects them to possible liability. There are examples of supervisory negligence and our case relates to them:Failure to treat ââ¬â also a liability of officers and jail manager; not providing first aid, ambulance service, or counselling (given the foresee ability of suicide); Negligent entrustment ;Negligent assignment ;Failure to direct ;Failure to discipline; Failure to investigate ;Failure to protect ;Negligent classification etc.Negligence, according to Sr. Mary Angela Shaughnessy, S.C.N., J.D., is the most common of all lawsuits f iled against educators. Negligence is an unintentional act or omission, which results in injury. Due to the fact that negligence is unintentional, a person charged with negligence is generally not going to face criminal charges but monetary charges (Shaughnessy, 1996, pp.8-9).So I also can state that we deal with not only simple, everyday negligence but with Legal negligence. Legal negligence must include four elements. If any of these elements is missing, legal negligence cannot be found. The four elements of negligence are:Duty â⬠¢ Violation of duty â⬠¢ Proximate cause â⬠¢ InjuryOur case has all this elements.The person charged with negligence must have had a responsibility or a duty in the situation. Injuries that occur at a place or time where the person does not have responsibility does not constitute liability. Violation of duty means that the person charged with negligence was not engaged in the responsibility or duty. Accidents can happen even with proper supervi sion but there is no negligence if there is no violation of duty.
